Hello, mooers! Last week, the U.S. stock market saw some wild swings, with the$NASDAQ 100 Index (.NDX.US)$down 2.31% and the$S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$falling 1.5%. However, it wasn’t all bad news—on the flip side, the$Russell 2000 Index (.RUT.US)$managed a 1.1% rise. The rollercoaster ride was mostly fueled by tariff concerns and broader worries about the economy slowing down, making for a tough week for many investors. "Volatility is ofte...

Hello mooers! Over the past week, global markets were significantly impacted by a series of major economic and political developments, leading to heightened market volatility. The most notable event was the announcement by the Trump administration of a reciprocal tariff plan, which has had profound implications for global trade dynamics and market confidence. As an immediate reaction, the stock prices of sensitive sectors such as tech...

The Trump administration’s recent announcement of reciprocal tariff policies has far exceeded market expectations, especially when it comes to the tariff rates and the scope of their application. The policy takes a cumulative approach, rather than a substitution model, meaning that tariffs will be added on top of existing duties, which will systematically raise the cost of imported goods. For example, the overall tariff on Chinese exports to the U.S. could re...

Agree. From here, we will get the increasing # of layoffs as corpo protects margins. This, combined with the risky loans promoted by lower bank regulations and AI approving loans, will nail the coffin on regional banks, and they will start failing. We're potentially looking at severe price increases, which obviously will hurt Trump voters the most. Maybe Trump will try to deflect blame onto "reciprocal" tariffs to pretend it's not his fault, or blame democrats if it takes more than 2 years.

It is noteworthy that Japan and South Korea, which are traditional reciprocal countries, have higher tariffs than Malaysia, which is quite amusing. Singapore will definitely have a lot of products going through and being laundered in the future, at just 10%. Chinese companies may likely build factories in Malaysia in the future, then export to Singapore, and finally export to the USA under the label of "Made in Singapore." Are Malaysia and Singapore ready for this sudden wealth? The reason is simple: first, the Logistics costs are much lower compared to those countries with 10% tariffs, plus the labor costs and land costs, and Malaysia doesn't even have a time difference... Chinese business owners, time to act!
The first quarter of 2025 painted a clear picture of global asset performance: safe-haven assets surged while riskier bets stumbled. Fears of an economic downturn fueled gains in government bonds and gold, with the latter soaring over 17%. Meanwhile, copper stole the spotlight, climbing nearly 25%, propelled by tariff uncertainties and inflationary pressures. U.S. equities, however, faced a turbulent Q1, rattled by the unpredictability of Trump-era po...
On April 2, 2025, the Trump administration is set to announce a series of "reciprocal tariffs," a move Trump himself has called "Liberation Day." This marks the day America is supposedly freed from the "long-term exploitation" by its trading partners. The push for these tariffs stems from concerns over the U.S. trade deficit. According to the concept of "Dirty 15," coined by Scott Bessent, the top 15 countries responsible for the largest U...

Hope that “Trump Put” will not become a “Trumpped Put” … initially tot that President Trump in office would help to boost the stock market as he is supposed to be pro-business. But now quite disheartening to see that stocks falls to such a low level and have been dragging for a number of days.
